Four Members to Display Quilts at QuiltCon

Four members of the Central Iowa Modern Quilt Guild will have their quilts displayed at QuiltCon, one of the largest modern quilting shows, in Nashville, Tennessee, from February 21-24, 2019.

The quilt show, presented by the Modern Quilt Guild (MQG), received more than 1,700 entries and accepted only 350 quilts to its juried show. Local quilters Julie Doy, Eva Marie Evans, Riane Menardi Morrison and Jessica Plunkett will contribute five of the accepted entries.

Doy’s quilt “Single Helix” was accepted into the Negative Space category. This is Doy’s first

Doy, Evans, Morrison and Plunkett are all members of the Central Iowa MQG, a local chapter of the international Modern Quilt Guild. The MQG has over 15,000 members in more than 200 guilds in 39 countries. The MQG’s annual quilt show, QuiltCon, draws thousands of attendees from around the world. The 2019 show will include over 500 modern quilts on display, as well as four days of workshops and lectures by leading designers.

“For a small-sized guild that has only been active for two years, our members have had great success in displaying quilts at QuiltCon,” says Plunkett, who is also the president of the Central Iowa MQG. “Our members also regularly have quilts displayed at the Iowa State Fair, the Des Moines Area Quilter’s Guild Show and many other juried national and international events.”

The Central Iowa MQG meets on the first Monday of each month from 7-9 p.m. The location varies, so follow on Instagram @centraliowamqg and on Facebook (facebook.com/ciamqgpublic) for more information. Quilters of all skill levels are welcome.
